✅ Belly Fat. If you carry a lot of weight in your belly and around your middle that is indicative of insulin resistance. A waist circumference of 36 inches or more is a sign of metabolic syndrome.
✅ Low HDL. HDL cholesterol is typically considered the “good“ cholesterol and if it’s lower than 50 that is a danger zone and yet another sign of metabolic syndrome.
✅ High Triglycerides. High triglycerides means there’s a lot of fat in your blood. This is not good. Your triglyceride to HDL ratio will give you a good indication of insulin resistance. If your ratio is less than 1.0 you are in pretty good shape, but if it’s over 3.0 you are in real trouble. Anything between 1.0 and 3.0 definitely needs improvement.
✅ High Blood Pressure. High blood pressure is another marker of metabolic syndrome and is very dangerous. Chronic high blood pressure can lead to strokes and heart attacks.
✅ High Blood Sugar. High blood sugar is also an indicator of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Normal blood sugar is between 70 and 100. If your blood sugar is regularly over that and your A1c is over 5.6 and you should take steps to reduce it.
